Dominion Caulking was founded in 1928 by Peter N. Byberg with its original office on Bay Street.

Completing work on houses in Rosedale throughout the depression of the 1930's. By 1950 Dominion had gained a reputation for quality work.

In 1956 with the death of Peter Byberg Sr., Peter Byberg Jr. took over the company as president and continued the tradition of quality and value. In the early 60's Dominion was completing the majority of the major high-rises in Toronto both in a new construction as well as a retrofit market.

In 1969 Dominion hired a young estimator named Bob Rowland, who's diligence paid off in having Dominion become architecturally sound, putting Dominion far and above its competitors who figured caulking was something you slapped on the wall.

In 1977 Peter Byberg Jr. passed away and Bob Rowland stepped in as president of the company.

Guiding the company through the recession of the early 80's and throughout his tenure, Bob was determined to continue to Dominion tradition.

A devoted member of the construction industry, Bob worked hard in giving back to the industry a little something for what it gave him.

In 1983 Bob was elected to be President of the Sealant Waterproofers and Restoration Institute out of Kansas City and in 1986 was elected Chairman of the Board of the Toronto Construction Association.

Bob's work and demeanor strengthened Dominion Caulking up through into the early 90's.

Again, in 1993 tragedy struck, when Bob Rowland died of cancer at the age of 54.

With his death, Scott Byberg (son of Peter Jr.) became President and Michael Rowland (son of Bob) became vice-president. Byberg at 32 and Rowland at 26 years of age were put through a difficult task as the industry was coming into the worst downturn since the early 30's.

With only a little work in the summer of 1993 and questions from all avenues as to whether or not Dominion was to survive, they set out to maintain the tradition of quality knowing that there would always be clients out there that demanded quality workmanship for their buildings. The difficult task was to have the clients understand that it was business as usual and that that tradition of quality was going to be maintained. Since that time, Dominion has maintained its tradition and the company has grown larger than ever.

Carrying on the tradition of Bob Rowland, his son Michael is on the Board of Directors of the Sealant Waterproofers Restoration Institute out of Kansas City and Scott Byberg is the 1999 Chairman of the Toronto Construction Association , one of the youngest ever.

In an ongoing attempt to bring Dominion clients the tradition of quality, Dominion will endeavor to marry the technological future with its tradition of quality from the past.
